UAP ARCHITECTS' JOURNAL FY 2016-2017: Call for Papers

You are invited to submit articles, innovative project casestudies, completed research projects, and monographs related to Architecture,Interior Architecture, Information Technology, Building Information Management,Building science, materials and technology, Urban Planning, Housing and RealEstate Development, Landscape Architecture, Green Architecture, HeritageArchitecture, Vernacular Architecture, Art and History, Disaster ResilientDesign, and other related fields.

The UAP Architects' Journal is initiated by the United Architectsof the Philippines (UAP) as a publication that aims to promote unity andexcellence in the professional arena by providing concerted forum andopportunities for architects in various practices, academics, researchers, aswell as other professionals from all disciplines, in the transformation,exchange, and criticism of inputs from research, analytical studies and othercritical works related to Architecture and the building and design industry ingeneral.

The UAP Architects' Journal shall be published once in FY2016-2017, Issue 1 (just in time for NATCON 43 in April 2017)

The UAP Architects' Journal is under the Committee on Publicationsof the Professional Development Commission.

January 2017 Architect Licensure Examination

Program of the Architect Licensure Examination can be viewed HERE.

Examinees are advised to be at their designated rooms before 6:30 inthe morning on the first day of examination. Examinees are required to observethe dress code of plain white polo shirt with decent pants or slacks. They arerequired to bring their Notice of Admission (NOA), applicant’s stub, officialreceipt, metered-stamped window mailing envelope, two or more pencils (No.2),black ball pens, long brown envelope and long plastic envelope.

On the second day of the examination, every candidate must bringthe following: Architect scales (English and Metric Scales), 30 x 60 and 45degrees triangles, protractors, non-programmable calculators, pencils, drawingpens, erasers, graphed paper and other tools for sketching purposes and a copyof Rules VII and VIII of the 2004 Revised IRR of P.D. no. 1096 “1997 NationalBuilding Code of the Philippines (NBCP)”.

UAP Special Committee on Design Build Services created

To address the concerns of architect performing Design-BuildServices, UAP National President Architect Guillermo H. Hisancha created aspecial committee on Design-Build Services which will be chaired by Arch.Donato B. Magcale.

Thecommittee will be guided by STANDARD OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE (SPP) ONDESIGN-BUILD SERVICES (SPP Document 207). According to SSP Document 207,The building industry and the architectural profession have devised severalmethods of project delivery with the ultimate goal of handling projects in theshortest possible time, at the lowest possible cost and at an acceptablequality and performance. An Architect with his education, training andexpertise qualifies him to take a direct role in the project, fromconceptualization to implementation. Design-Build Services simplifies andexpedites the process of project delivery while providing creativecost-effective solutions. The Architect renders professional services in theimplementation of his design. In Design-Build Services, he assumes theprofessional responsibility and civil liability for both the design and theconstruction of the project.

The scope of Design-Building services,according to the guidelines include: Design-Build Services by Administration,and Design-Build Services with Guaranteed Maximum Project Construction Cost

UAP and PRBOA CPD Council for Architecture sign Memorandum of Understanding

The United Architects of the Philippines, the Integrated andAccredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPOA) has just signed aMemorandum of Understanding with the Professional Regulatory Board ofArchitecture through its Continuing Professional Development Council for Architectureat the UAP Headquarters in Scout Rallos, Quezon City.

In anticipation of the impending effectivity ofthe CPD Law of 2016, UAP agrees to assist the PRBOA CPD Council forArchitecture in disseminating all information regarding CPD to all Registeredand Licensed Architects (RLAs) and to conduct CPD activities and issuecorresponding certificates with credited points.

In turn the PRBOA CPD Council shallfurnish all the details of accredited CPD activities to the UAP fordissemination and shall regulate, evaluate and monitor CPD programs andproviders.

Signatories of the MOU are UAPNational President Arch. Guillermo H. Hisancha on behalf of the UAP and PRBOAmember and Chairman of the PRBOA CPD Council Architect Robert M. Mirafuente onbehalf of the PRBOA CPD Council for Architecture.

Natcon 43: Shaking up the Architecture Practice

With the theme "Shift: Shaking up the Architecture Practice", the 43rd UAP NationalConvention is set to be held on April 27-April 29, 2017 at SMX ConventionCenter, Pasay City.

According to therationale released by the organizing committee, the theme proposes "apractice that is responsive, interdisciplinary, multi-scalar, human-centeredand collaborative".

This year's NatconDirector is Arch. Willie Y. Chua.

PRC Bulletin on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) For All Professions
January 5, 2017

Manila - The Continuing Professional Development ProgramManagement Committee (CPD-PMC) of the Professional Regulation Commissionclarifies that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as mandatoryrequirement in the renewal of professional license under Section 10 of R.A.10912, otherwise known as the CPD Law of 2016, shall be implemented after theeffectivity of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of R.A. 10912 whichwill be in March 2017. Thereafter, the CPD Council for each regulated professionshall issue its Operational Guidelines to implement the general IRR for itsprofession.

However, for thoseprofessionals whose Professional Regulatory Laws require CPD credit units priorto the renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PICs), or the professionallicense, compliance with CPD remains mandatory.

Call for Nominations for the UAP Young Architects Award 2017

In its continuing advocacy to give recognition to Architectmembers of the United Architects of the Philippines who have shown commendableachievements, commitment and made significant contributions to the professionin the early stage of their architectural career, the Committee on UAP YoungArchitects headed by its Chairman, Arch. Patrick N. Rodriguez is nowseeking nominations for the UAP Young Architects Award 2017.

According to the Memo Circular issued by the Office of theNational President through the Office of the Secretary General, the UAP YoungArchitects Award Program and Guidelines were adopted by the National Board ofDirectors in its regular meeting held last 10th of December 2016 at the UAPNational Headquarters, Diliman, Quezon City.

Nominations must be submitted and received by Ms. EvelynParayaoan, Commission and Committee Coordinator at the UAP NationalHeadquarters No. 53 Scout Rallos Street, Diliman, Quezon City on or beforeFEBRUARY 10, 2017 at 5:00 PM.
