PFPA honors Past UAP National President Hedy Luis

The Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA) honored Past UAP National President Arch. Prosperidad "Hedy" C. Luis the PFPA Professional Distinction Award during its 7th Excellence Award held last February 29, 2020 at the Bahay ng Alumni, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.

The Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA) is the umbrella organization of all professionals in the Philippines covering 43 professional organizations grouped under 4 permanent councils, namely; Council of Professional Health Association (COPHA); Council for Business & Management Professionals (CBMP); Philippine Technological Council (PTC) and the Council for the Built and Natural Environment (CBNE) where the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) is a member.

Architect Prosperidad C. Luis obtained her degrees of Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture from the University of the Philippines. She obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Health Facility Planning and Design from the Medical Architecture Research Unit of the University of North London as a Fellow of the World Health Organization.

Architect Luis is Principal Architect of her own firm, Luis and Associates and a member of the academe for more than 40 years. She retired as Professor and Dean of the College of Architecture of the University of the Philippines in 2007. However, she continues to teach in the UP Open University campus as Adjunct Faculty of the Department of Development and Management and as a Professional Lecturer in the UP College of Public Health.

She has served the World Health Organization as Consultant and Temporary Adviser in assignments to the countries of the Western Pacific Region such as Korea, Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines. She is a main contributor-writer of the WHO publication, “District Hospitals: Guidelines for Development”. She is a member of the Union Internationales des Architectes Public Health Group (UIA-PHG), an organization of healthcare architecture practitioners and the Global University Program in Healthcare Architecture (GUPHA), an organization of healthcare educators and researchers.

Architect Luis has served her professional organization, the United Architects of the Philippines as its 15th National President. She also served as Deputy Chair for Zone B of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) and Chancellor of the UAP College of Fellows. She is currently the Chair of the UAP Specialty Council in Healthcare and is the Secretary General of the Central Council of the APEC Architects Project. She was elevated to Fellow of the UAP in 1990 for the achievements in design, education and research and is one of the first 12 APEC Architects in the Philippines.

In 1999, the Professional Regulation Commission awarded her the Outstanding Professional of the Year in the Field of Architecture and, in year 2007, UAP conferred to her the Likha Gold Medal Award, the highest UAP architecture award and is given to illustrious architects in recognition of their impeccable moral character, highest standard of professional and ethical conduct, excellence and prestige in the practice of the architectural profession, and distinguished contribution and service to the UAP, the community, government and country.

The PFPA strives to become a viable catalyst and potent force for national development and progress toward improving the quality of life of Filipinos through its professionals both in the government service and private sector. In 2005, the PFPA Excellence Awards was established to serve as inspiration to member-professionals to excel in their chosen fields of endeavor as well as motivate them to give their very best for the country. It aims to be the highest distinction to be conferred on professionals who have displayed exemplary contribution in the advancement of their professions and to nation-building.
